[Herald Economy=Son Mi-jung Reporter] The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) released a video on the 16th (local time) which they claim shows the discovery of underground tunnels in the premises of Al-Shifa Hospital, the largest medical institution in the Gaza Strip, where they have suspected the operational headquarters of Hamas to be located.

The video captures the entrance of a tunnel built between the hospital buildings and the complex tangle of rebar near the tunnel entrance.

The IDF also announced that they found a Hamas pickup truck loaded with weapons near the tunnel entrance. The video includes footage of a white pickup truck and weapons laid out on the ground.

The IDF has claimed that Hamas set up its operational headquarters in Al-Shifa Hospital and has been using patients and medical staff as human shields. Furthermore, the IDF suspects that hostages captured during a surprise attack last month were kept here, and launched a sudden deployment of troops to the hospital for a search operation the previous morning.

While the IDF continues to release photos and videos purporting to show the spaces Hamas used as operational headquarters and the hidden weapons, some human rights organizations are criticizing them for failing to provide conclusive evidence that the hospital was used as Hamas’s operational headquarters.
