[AP News = Reporter Bae Du-yeol] Hyundai Motor announced on the 17th that it has signed a comprehensive and strategic partnership with Amazon to provide customers with innovative and new experiences.
The partnership between the two companies, unveiled at the ‘2023 LA Auto Show’ held at the LA Convention Center in the U.S. on the 16th local time, includes ▲online car sales at Amazon ▲selection of Amazon Web Services as the cloud-first supplier for digital innovation ▲future installation of Amazon’s AI assistant ‘Alexa’ in Hyundai’s new cars, among other multi-faceted collaborations.
Firstly, Hyundai Motor and Amazon will sell Hyundai vehicles in the U.S. through Amazon starting from 2024 through this business agreement.
Hyundai Motor is the first brand that customers can purchase vehicles from on Amazon. Through this new digital shopping experience, customers can easily purchase a car from anywhere and pick up the vehicle at the dealer at their desired time or receive it at home.
Customers can complete the entire car purchase process on Amazon, from finding a vehicle available for purchase in the area they want, based on various options such as model, trim, color, and features, to selecting payment and financing options, and to making the payment. Additionally, dealers can increase their visibility and provide convenience to customers through online car sales.
In addition, Hyundai Motor has selected Amazon Web Services (AWS), which boasts the highest level of recognition in the cloud computing industry, as its cloud-first supplier for overall innovation in data management, including calculation, storage, management and operation, analysis, AI, and IoT.
Hyundai Motor will become a more data-centric company by transitioning the operation of all data from research and development to customer service from the current on-premise form to the cloud form of AWS.
Hyundai Motor plans to first apply AWS to production optimization, manufacturing and supply chain management, security and disaster recovery, and connected car development. In addition, Hyundai Motor and Amazon have also established education and certification programs to teach cloud technology to Hyundai Motor’s researchers.
Hyundai Motor plans to install Amazon’s AI assistant ‘Alexa’ in new cars launched in the U.S. from 2025.
Customers can ask Alexa to play music, podcasts, audiobooks, set notifications, modify schedules, check calendars, and more. They can also request various smart home functions such as warming up the house while driving home, checking if the front door is locked, and controlling the lighting.
In addition, customers can request Alexa for the latest traffic information updates or weather forecasts, and control the in-car media player or navigation system by voice through Alexa. Some functions can be used even when the internet connection is unstable or unavailable.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said, “Hyundai Motor is an innovative company that can share Amazon’s passion for making customers’ lives better and easier,” and added, “This partnership should play its role, from making it easy for customers to purchase cars online to using Alexa in the car for entertainment, shopping, smart home control, and schedule checking, to transferring data to Amazon Web Services to innovate customer experience and business operations. We look forward to developing various business models with Hyundai Motor in the future.”
President Jang Jae-hoon of Hyundai Motor said, “The cooperation with Amazon, one of the most customer-centric companies in the world, is an opportunity to realize the future of smart mobility by expanding Hyundai Motor’s business and sales network and accelerating the transition to electrification.”
He continued, “Amazon is an ideal partner that can realize Hyundai Motor’s vision of ‘Progress for Humanity’, which is to move people and goods in a more efficient and sustainable way,” and added, “Hyundai Motor is the first car company where the entire purchase process from vehicle selection to receipt is possible on Amazon. This shows that Hyundai Motor is continuously pursuing ways to enhance customer experience with Amazon.”
