President Yoon Suk-yeol met with Chinese President Xi Jinping and shook hands and had a brief conversation at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in San Francisco, USA on the 16th (local time).
This is the first meeting between the leaders of the two countries in a year since the one-on-one meeting between the leaders of South Korea and China at the G20 summit held in Bali, Indonesia in November last year.
President Yoon met with President Xi at the conference hall before the first session of the APEC summit started at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.
Although President Yoon and President Xi were seen shaking hands and briefly smiling while having a conversation, the specific details of their conversation have not been revealed.
President Yoon’s separate meeting with President Xi is drawing attention as a result of his participation in the APEC summit. It is expected that if President Yoon has a summit meeting with President Xi, discussions on economic cooperation and a summit meeting between South Korea, Japan, and China will gain momentum.
Meanwhile, President Yoon also greeted Prime Minister Kishida Fumio of Japan and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada at the conference hall.
