MBC’s ‘I Live Alone’ (hereinafter referred to as ‘I Live Alone’) denied allegations that a hotel owned by JMS (Christian Gospel Mission) appeared on the show, but the public’s attention is still sharp.
On the 3rd episode of ‘I Live Alone’ broadcasted on the 16th, suspicions arose that the hotel that appeared on the show is related to JMS’s general chairman, Jung Myung-seok, who is currently on trial for sexual assault.
The cast of ‘I Live Alone’ was shown staying overnight at a hotel in Wanju, Jeollabuk-do, and on the 5th, YouTuber Gu Je-yeok claimed on his channel, “The A hotel, which promoted on ‘I Live Alone,’ is closely related to JMS.” This controversy surrounding ‘I Live Alone’ has spread widely.
At the time, Gu Je-yeok explained, “‘I Live Alone’ promoted this hotel as a paid product placement level. This hotel is related to JMS as a company. Although it may appear unrelated to JMS on paper, most of JMS’s events and festivals were held at this hotel.” He also revealed a photo of Jung Myung-seok, wearing a crown in the A hotel lobby and taking a picture.
After the broadcast of ‘I Live Alone,’ the Anti-Cult Damage Prevention Center sent a letter of protest to MBC, providing evidence of the connection between JMS and the A hotel.
According to the center, they stated, “Jung Myung-seok educates about the A hotel, saying, ‘When praying, Jesus told me that He will build a villa here. JMS purchased the A hotel as a JMS accommodation to hold their own events.'” They added, “(Room) 302 of the A hotel is the place where Jung Myung-seok habitually committed sexual assault.”
In response to these allegations, the A hotel stated on the 16th to Mydaily, “Everything is a rumor. It has nothing to do with JMS. ‘I Live Alone’ made a reservation just like any other ordinary customer.”
A day after the allegations were raised, the production team of ‘I Live Alone’ released a brief official statement, stating, “The suspicions currently being raised are groundless. We will pay more attention and make more efforts regarding the various opinions sent by viewers.”
Although both sides denied it, the public is still suspicious, saying, “Isn’t the A hotel famous for being related to JMS?” and “There are photos of wearing a crown in the hotel lobby…” In the meantime, today (17th), the current situation of actress Lee Yoo-jin, who has been living in a basement apartment for 2 years, moving to a newly built rental apartment, and the upcoming release of announcer Kim Dae-ho’s trip to Egypt, will be revealed.
Therefore, it is noteworthy that ‘I Live Alone,’ which has been a strong contender on Friday nights for a long time, is facing a backlash such as a decline in ratings.
Meanwhile, Jung Myung-seok was indicted and arrested in October last year on charges of habitual sexual assault or harassment of female followers from February 2018 to September 2021.
