President Joe Biden expressed his gratitude to President Yoon Seok-yeol and Prime Minister Kishida Fumio of Japan, saying, “I was able to carry out my duties as President of the United States with less burden thanks to President Yoon and Prime Minister Kishida.”
President Biden made these remarks during the trilateral summit meeting with South Korea and Japan on November 16th in San Francisco, where the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit is taking place, according to Kim Tae-hyo, the first deputy director of the National Security Office, who briefed the press at the local press center.
This is the first meeting of the leaders of South Korea, the United States, and Japan since the trilateral summit held at Camp David in the United States on August 18th.
President Yoon, President Biden, and Prime Minister Kishida took a commemorative photo separately from the APEC meeting and had a private conversation for about 10 minutes afterward, it was revealed.
During the private conversation, President Yoon also positively evaluated the cooperation between South Korea, the United States, and Japan, stating that the philosophy and trust regarding the relationship between security and the economy were shared by the leaders of the United States and Japan, according to a presidential office official.
The official mentioned that regarding the discussions at the trilateral summit, “The comprehensive cooperation framework among the three countries, which was established at Camp David in the United States in August, has been successfully continued, and the high-level dialogue channels between the three countries to implement it are actively operating, which seems to be satisfying.”
The official further stated, “The fact that the leaders of the three countries implicitly share is that security and economic cooperation are two sides of the same coin,” adding, “Partners for advanced technology cooperation should be trusted almost 100% in terms of military, political systems, ideology, and values, and the leaders of the three countries believe that such a relationship exists among South Korea, the United States, and Japan.”
