On the 16th (local time), President Yoon Seok-yeol stated, “We will take the lead in promoting the use of carbon-free energy” and proposed “to establish and promote a special initiative at the APEC level to spread smart mobility.”
At the first session of the APEC Summit held in San Francisco, USA, President Yoon said, “We will take the lead in promoting the use of carbon-free energy” and “We want to promote the transition to a clean energy system together with APEC member countries.”
In particular, President Yoon strongly emphasized the spread of smart mobility, which is our strength. President Yoon introduced, “Along with the expansion of clean energy use, the transition to eco-friendly means of transportation is the solution with the highest contribution to responding to climate change” and “Korea is actively promoting the spread of smart mobility such as eco-friendly cars, autonomous vehicles, and intelligent transportation systems.”
He then proposed, “Let’s establish and promote a special initiative to spread smart mobility across member countries in the region.”
He also introduced carbon neutrality in the shipbuilding industry, where Korea has strengths. President Yoon emphasized, “We need to continuously build green shipping routes for carbon neutrality on the sea” and “We will densely connect green ports in various places in the Asia-Pacific region, including Korea and the United States, through eco-friendly shipping solutions.”
Lastly, President Yoon stated, “We will responsibly contribute to closing the climate gap” and explained, “The contribution of $300 million to the Green Climate Fund (GCF) promised this year is a will of solidarity to support climate-vulnerable countries.”

President Yoon introduced Busan, where the APEC Climate Center is located, to the leaders, describing it as a “gateway connecting the Asian continent and the Pacific” and explained, “It will be a platform for solidarity and cooperation in seeking solutions to the climate crisis and other immediate problems.”
