[Herald Economy (San Francisco)=Reporter Jung Yoon-hee] On the 16th (local time), President Joe Biden of the United States said, “As the President of the United States, I was able to lighten my burden in carrying out my duties thanks to President Yoon Seok-yeol of South Korea and Prime Minister Fumio Kishida of Japan.”
In San Francisco for the APEC summit, President Biden held a separate trilateral meeting with President Yoon and Prime Minister Kishida at the Moscone Center in the afternoon. This was announced by Kim Tae-hyo, the First Deputy Director of the National Security Office, during a press center briefing.
After attending the second summit of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF), Presidents Yoon and Biden, and Prime Minister Kishida met separately and took commemorative photos. They then had a private conversation for about 10 minutes.
According to the presidential office, President Yoon said during the private conversation, “I positively evaluate the cooperation between South Korea, the United States, and Japan,” and “The leaders of the United States and Japan agree with my philosophy and belief about the correlation between security and economy.”

A presidential office official explained the discussion at the trilateral meeting, saying, “It seems that the three leaders are satisfied that the comprehensive cooperation system built by the three countries at Camp David in the United States last August is being successfully implemented, and the high-level dialogue channel for implementing it is actively operating.”
He added, “What the three leaders implicitly agree on is that security and economic cooperation are two sides of the same coin,” and “The partner for advanced technology cooperation must be 100% trustworthy militarily, and in terms of political system, ideology, and values, and the three leaders believe that such a relationship exists between South Korea, the United States, and Japan.”
The three leaders of South Korea, the United States, and Japan meeting in one place is an event that took place three months after the Camp David summit in Washington D.C in August. This is the fifth time (one solo, four multilateral) for President Yoon since he took office. President Yoon also had the seventh Korea-Japan summit of the year with Prime Minister Kishida in the morning, meeting again two months after their meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit in India in September.
