[Sport TV News=Lee Min-jae Reporter] Yves Bissouma (27) of Tottenham had hoped to play alongside Son Heung-min (31).
The British media ‘The Boot Room’ reported on the 16th (Korean time) that “Bissouma spoke about the player he wanted to play with when he joined Tottenham last summer”.
Bissouma conveyed the situation at the time when he decided to leave Brighton and join Tottenham through the official Tottenham YouTube channel.
Bissouma opened up, saying, “I was ready to leave Brighton. I had a wonderful time for 4 years. I told myself, ‘Now is really the time'”.
He added, “The club also knew I would leave. That’s because I said I wanted to grow my career. The club agreed. Tottenham made an offer, and I didn’t hesitate”.
Bissouma had looked forward to playing with Tottenham’s legends. He revealed, “It was amazing for me to play with Son Heung-min, Harry Kane, Hugo Lloris, and all the players”.
Bissouma joined Brighton from Lille OSC in 2018. He showed versatility with a high activity level, being able to play as a central midfielder and a defensive midfielder.
He proved his competitiveness in the Premier League. He recorded 2 goals and 2 assists in a total of 28 games in the 2021-22 season, and showed his influence by starting in 25 out of 26 Premier League games.
He caught the attention of coach Antonio Conte. As a result, he moved to Tottenham for a transfer fee of 25 million pounds (about 400 billion won / approximately $331 million) last June.
Although he was chosen by Coach Conte and transferred, he did not get many opportunities in his first season. He played in a total of 28 games, but only started in 10 out of 23 Premier League games. He also had difficulty managing his condition due to an ankle injury in the mid-to-late season.
This season has changed. He is definitely getting opportunities under the regime of coach Nuno Espírito Santo. He has increased his standing by starting in all 11 Premier League games. He is showing stability in the midfield with a high activity level.
Meanwhile, Bissouma is the only player among those he wanted to play with who is in sync with Son Heung-min. This season, Son Heung-min is running the ground with Bissouma as the top striker. Kane moved to Bayern Munich, and Lloris is still a Tottenham player but is unable to play due to being pushed out by Gulliermo Viscarra.
