Rosé, a member of the K-pop group BLACKPINK, attended an event for the spouses of leaders from the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) countries. During the event, she shared her belief that it is important to communicate with others when dealing with mental health issues.
According to the White House and the Presidential Office, Jill Biden, the First Lady of the United States, hosted a mental health event on the 17th (local time) at Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino, California, for the spouses of APEC leaders.
The event, hosted by First Lady Jill Biden, was attended by Kim Geon-hee, the wife of South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol, spouses of leaders from Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, and the Philippines, as well as Apple CEO Tim Cook.
The First Lady made a surprise invitation to Rosé, introducing her as a “young woman with astonishing talent and courage” and a “popular solo artist and lead singer of the Korean pop group, BLACKPINK.”
At the event, Rosé emphasized the importance of discussing and managing mental health issues with those around you. According to AP News, Rosé shared that she often feels vulnerable to mental health issues when she is under the public’s scrutiny, especially during times of criticism.
She stated, “No matter how hard I try, I often feel like what I do is never enough. There are always people who have strong opinions and try to take control of situations. This often makes me feel lonely, but it’s crucial to discuss these issues. Just like physical health, mental health needs to be managed as well.”
In relation to this, First Lady Jill Biden also added, “There may be times when we hide, keep secret, and ignore mental health issues, but we can only start healing when we reveal and honestly talk about them.”
