BLACKPINK member Rosé participated in an event for the spouses of leaders attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. At the event, Rosé shared her thoughts on the importance of discussing mental health issues with those around you.
According to the White House and the Presidential Office, Jill Biden, the wife of U.S. President Joe Biden, hosted a mental health event on the 17th (local time) at Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino, California, for the spouses of leaders participating in the APEC summit.
The event, hosted by Jill Biden, was attended by Kim Gun-hee, the wife of South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol, the spouses of leaders from Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, and the Philippines, and Apple CEO Tim Cook.
Biden surprised the attendees by inviting Rosé, introducing her as a “young woman with amazing talent and courage” and a “popular solo artist and lead singer of the Korean pop group BLACKPINK”.
Rosé reportedly shared her view that it is essential to discuss and manage mental health issues when experiencing mental difficulties. According to the Associated Press and other sources, Rosé expressed that she feels vulnerable to mental health issues when she receives a lot of attention from the public, especially criticism.
She stated, “No matter how hard I try, I often feel that what I do is never enough. Also, there are always people who have strong opinions and try to take control of situations,” adding, “This can make me feel lonely, but it’s important to discuss these things. Just as physical health is crucial, so is managing mental health.”
In relation to this, Jill Biden also added, “There are times when we hide, keep secret, and ignore mental health issues, but we can start healing when we reveal and speak honestly about them.”
