[Herald Economy=Lee Won-yul] As the U.S. presidential election in November next year approaches, former U.S. President Donald Trump, who is attracting attention again, could implement radical hardline policies such as mass dismissals of public officials if he succeeds in returning to power, CNN predicted on the 17th (local time).
Based on the remarks of former President Trump and his close aides, CNN predicted that if Trump returns to power, high-intensity protectionist trade policies, massive restructuring of the public servant society, and deportation of immigrants could be promoted.
CNN introduced Trump’s remarks intending to send out incompetent public officials for strong policy enforcement, predicting that if Trump’s second term becomes a reality, tens of thousands of career public officials who can keep their positions regardless of regime change could be reclassified as positions that can be freely dismissed at any time.
In addition, CNN predicted that aggressive tariff impositions could occur, introducing the former president’s intention to introduce all-round tariffs on foreign products in an interview with Fox News, citing “10%” as an example.
Previously, former President Trump controversially imposed high tariffs on foreign steel (25%) and aluminum (10%) products for the protection of the steel industry, citing the national security of the United States, causing disputes with major trading partners including China, the European Union (EU), South Korea, and Japan.
CNN also predicted that Trump would implement high-intensity illegal immigrant control when he starts his second term, conveying the spokesperson of the Trump camp’s remarks that “stopping the ‘invasion’ (illegal immigrant entry) from the southern border is an urgent national security necessity.”

Meanwhile, CNN reported on the 18th (local time) that President Joe Biden, who is aiming for re-election in next year’s U.S. election, is unusually being pushed back by strong candidates from the opposing party in major opinion polls as an incumbent president.
In particular, in recent opinion polls from five major places, including CBS News, CNN, Fox News, Market Ross School, and Quinnipiac University, Trump’s approval rating led President Biden by 2-4 percentage points.
Although it is a lead within the margin of error, it is unusual for an incumbent president to be pushed back in all major opinion polls.
