Victory at the final TCR World Tour event in Macau
Norbert Michelisz wins the first final race
Hyundai Motor Company has clinched the driver’s championship title at the top-tier global touring car competition, ‘2023 TCR World Tour’.
Hyundai announced on the 20th that the ‘Elantra N TCR (domestic name Avante N TCR)’ won the first place at the TCR World Tour final held at the Macau Guia Circuit from the 17th to the 19th (local time), confirming the overall victory in the driver’s division.
Norbert Michelisz of the ‘BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse’ team, who competed with the Elantra N TCR race car, crossed the finish line first in the first final race of the Macau event.
Norbert Michelisz climbed to the top of this season’s driver’s championship by winning multiple times from the opening event in Portugal, the third event in Italy, the eighth event in Australia, and the ninth event in Macau, earning a total of 440 points.
Mikel Azcona, who competed with the same race car, finished fourth in the first final race and finished the season in fifth place overall in the driver’s division.
The BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse team finished third overall in the team division with a total of 805 points.
The TCR World Tour, which started anew this year following the end of the ‘WTCR’ last year, determines rankings based on points earned according to the results of nine major races selected from over 200 TCR events held worldwide.
At the final of the ‘2023 TCR China Championship’, held in Macau at the same time as the TCR World Tour, Hyundai’s circuit race car Elantra N TCR also topped the podium.
Martin Cao of the ‘Hyundai N’ team won the first final race, demonstrating the powerful performance of the Elantra N TCR to Chinese motorsports fans.
Martin Cao, who has been performing well since the opening of the TCR China Championship at the Shanghai International Circuit in May, finished first overall in the driver’s division after the 6th round Macau event, and the Elantra N TCR also achieved the feat of placing first overall in the model division. In the team division, the Hyundai N team finished second overall.
Hyundai Motor Company, which officially announced its entry into the Chinese market with its high-performance N brand in April, plans to solidly build its N brand fandom in China and widely publicize the excellence of its high-performance race cars based on this victory in the TCR China Championship.
Til Battenberg, Executive of N Brand & Motorsports Division, said, “I am very proud that we won both the TCR World Tour and TCR China events held in Macau this year with the Elantra N TCR. This was possible because the drivers and team members worked hard together. Through motorsports activities, we will continue to enhance the competitiveness of the N brand and prepare thoroughly for next year’s competition to continue to show our best to our customers.”
